The Importance of Colorado

For the first time in my voting life, I am living in a state where my vote for president will actually matter. I’m encouraged by the recent trends in Colorado: We have a Democratic governor, Democratically-controlled state legislature, and one Democratic senator. Additionally, Mark Udall, Democratic candidate for the other senate seat, is polling well. However, living in conservative Colorado Springs, I’m discouraged by the number of McCain signs and bumper stickers popping up around town and the tenor of the letters and commentaries in the local newspaper. So as an exhortation to myself and to my fellow Democrats in Colorado: Let’s do our best to deliver this state’s nine electoral votes for Barack Obama!
