My Hope for Obama’s VP
Aug 21st, 2008 by nick
So Barack Obama has selected a running mate. Recent news has played up the chances of Joe Biden, Evan Bayh, and Tim Kaine. No offense to the three of them, but hope it’s someone else. Obama doesn’t need to play it safe by selecting a respected white male (boring) politician. He’s not the “safe” candidate; he’s the candidate of change and hope. He should go all the way, and select someone exciting. Someone like… Hillary Clinton. Yes, Hillary Clinton. The primary campaign is over and forgotten. Obama is the accepted full-fledged candidate now, so it’s unlikely that Clinton would overshadow him, as some people had originally feared. Furthermore, Clinton would bring an incredible amount of attention to the campaign, and enlist the full-fledged support of both Bill and Hillary. Love them or hate them, they’re great politicians and campaigners, and they draw media attention like no others.
If not Clinton, then Kathleen Sibelius would be a good choice, both because she’s a woman and because she’s a governor, not a senator. People seem to like voting for someone with executive experience.
Another good choice to rock the political establishment would be Michael Bloomberg, but I’m not sure he’s interested. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel is also an intriguing choice, but also far-fetched.
I’ll vote for Obama regardless of his VP, but the more exciting the choice, the more media attention and momentum he’ll earn.
