Did Bush Order the CIA to Lie?
Aug 5th, 2008 by nick
A new book by Pulitzer-price winning journalist Ron Suskind alleges that President Bush ordered the CIA to forge a letter showing a connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda in the run-up to the Iraq war.
I don’t know whether or not this assertion is actually true, but the response of the mainstream media has been interesting. None of the major news sites, such as CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC, have the story on their front page as of this writing (5:20 PM MST). Using a Google News search, you can find stories from the major news outlets, but the tone on most of them seems to be as favorable as possible to the White House. Consider this Fox News story, with title, “Administration Fights Back Against Book Claiming It Knowingly Lied About Iraq-Al Qaeda Connection”. The story has more paragraphs discrediting the book than information about the actual contents and allegations.
Now imagine for a moment the response this story would be getting from Fox News and the like if it were a Democratic president who had allegedly committed an impeachable offense, no matter how trivial. Oh wait, we don’t have to imagine.
