Hillary Wins New Hampshire

I’m pleased that Hillary Clinton won the New Hampshire primary, but not because I necessarily want her to be the Democratic nominee for president. I haven’t yet decided for whom I’m going to vote, or even yet figured out what one does at a caucus. Nonetheless, I’m pleased because Barack Obama won in Iowa, so Clinton’s win in New Hampshire essentially ties the race. And the more competitive the race for the Democratic nominee, the less likely the candidates are to drop out early, or for the media to anoint a winner for whom the rest of the country ends up voting. Thus, more people in more states will actually have a say in who becomes the eventual candidate for president. Furthermore, the tighter the race, the more media attention it will garner, benefiting the Democrats in the eventual presidential contest against a Republican.
